HEALTH PROFILE

Based on the most recent record available, the total population of Barangay Poblacion Bajo is 1,449 which is 4.91% of the total population of the Municipality of Sergio Osmeña.

 

Purok 4 has the most number of households with 323 whereas Purok 6 has the least number with 105 households.

Figure 1 shows the percentage of indigent and non-indigent families in Barangay Poblacion Bajo. Out of 329 households in the barangay, 119 are composed of the group Subanen, the only minority and indigent group in the barangay, which is 31% of the total number of households. Non-indigent families comprise 69% (210 households).

Figure 2 shows the percentage of families in Barangay Poblacion Bajo enrolled in the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHICO) Pamilyang Pilipino Pantawid Program or 4Ps. Thirty six percent (119 families) are below the poverty threshold limit and underwent a series of interviews which makes them qualified as members of 4Ps.

As of October 21, 2015, there are 11 pregnant women in Barangay Poblacion Bajo. This is lower compared to the 23 pregnancies recorded in the same period in 2014.

Between 2013 and 2014, the number of senior citizens was decreased by one, from 76 (2013) to 75 (2014). As of 2015, there are 27 more senior citizens than the previous year.

Figure 5.1 shows the top 10 leading causes of morbidity in the Municipality of Sergio Osmeña for the year 2013, namely: Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI) with 2,895 recorded cases (39%); Coryza with 493 cases (7%); Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE) with 446 cases (6%); Influenza with 336 cases (5%); Wounds of all forms with 274 cases (4%); Hypertension (HPN) with 269 cases (4%); Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) with 223 cases (3%); Skin Infections with 212 cases (3%); Rule out Pulmonary Tuberculosis with 167 cases (2%); and Chronic Gastroenteritis with 163 cases (2%). These diseases compose 75% of the total number of morbidity cases in Sergio Osmeña. The remaining 25% of cases are caused by other diseases.

In 2014, URTI is still the leading cause of morbidity in the Municipality of Sergio Osmeña, as shown in Figure 5.2. The other leading causes of morbidity include the following: Scabies with 296 recorded cases (9%); AGE with 212 cases (7%); Bronchial Asthma with 199 cases (6%); HPN with 167 cases (5%); Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD) with 151 cases (5%); Influenza with 147 cases (5%); Wounds of all forms with 147 cases (5%); UTI with 143 cases (4%); To consider Pulmonary Tuberculosis with 141 cases (4%); and Musculoskeletal Pain with 73 cases (2%). These diseases compose 94% of the total number of morbidity cases in Sergio Osmeña. The remaining 6% of cases are caused by other diseases.

Figure 6.1 shows the leading causes of mortality in the Municipality of Sergio Osmeña for the year 2013. These include Cardiac Arrest Myocardial Infarction, Multiple Organ System Failure (MOSF) secondary to Senility, and Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) – Hypertension Stage 2 poorly controlled, each with reported seven (7) cases; Respiratory Failure secondary to Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) and Cardiac Arrest due to Bronchial Asthma, each with four (4) reported cases; Multiple Stab Wounds with three (3) reported cases; and lastly, Respiratory Failure secondary to Status Asthmaticus with two (2) reported cases.

In 2014, Myocardial Infarction along with Severe Community Acquired Pneumonia leads all diseases as the major cause of mortality in the municipality of Sergio Osmeña, each with 15 reported cases. Other leading causes of mortality include the following: Cardiovascular Disease with 12 reported cases; MOSF secondary to Senility with 10 reported cases; MOSF secondary to Bacterial Meningitis and Chronic Renal Failure, each with five (5) reported cases; Cardiopulmonary Arrest and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), each with three (3) reported cases; Severe Dehydration and Cardiopulmonary Failure, each with two (2) reported cases; and lastly, To consider ovarian cancer and Multiple Hacked and Stab Wounds, each with one (1) reported case. These diseases comprise 78% of the total number of mortality cases in Sergio Osmeña. The remaining 22% of cases are caused by other diseases.

There is a 0.4% decrease in the percentage of fully-immunized children (FIC) from 79.8% in 2013 to 79.4% in 2014. As of September 2015, the percentage of fully-immunized children is at 54.3%.

There is a steady decline in the percentage of exclusively breastfeeding infant below six months from 79% in 2013 to 67.7% in 2014. As of October 2015, the percentage of exclusively breastfeeding infant below six months is at 49%

The malnutrition rate of underweight, severely underweight, and overweight decreased from 11%, 5.9%, and 2.9%, respectively, in 2013, to 8%, 0.5%, and 0.5%, respectively in 2014.

In 2013, the percentage of deliveries attended by skilled delivery workers is 65%, higher by 9% than in 2014 with a percentage of 56 (Figure 10). We cannot conclude a steady decline in the percentage of deliveries attended by skilled health personnel since the 54% deliveries attended by skilled personnel is based from January to September 2015 only.

As of 2013 health record, 38% of total number of deliveries were facility based whereas in 2014, the percentage increased by 41%. As of September 2015, 44% of deliveries were facility based.

According to the Municipal Engineering Office’s record, out of 271 households in Barangay Poblacion Bajo, 95% have their respective sanitary toilets which consist of the following: Flush with Septic Tank, Pour Flush with Septic Tank, and Pour Flush without Septic Tank with 10 (4%), 241 (89%), and 5 (2%) recorded households, respectively.
